Red Productions Takes on the Congo

February 23, 2009

Abducted in Congo and too small to carry a gun, boys were given only a whistle and sent to the front lines of battle. The sound of their whistles calling together was meant to frighten the enemy away. Failing that, their sole duty was to receive the bullets with their bodies. With falling whistles, their only choice was to feign death, or face it. Their story is a small window exposing the world’s largest war.

This is a small insight into the horrifying discovery the founder of Falling Whistles made on a recent trip to the DRC. Upon returning home, Sean D. Carasso knew something had to be done. He began planning benefits and fundraisers to gain support for this cause. Benefits were held across the country and shortly after Falling Whistles was planning a return trip. One thing was missing, someone to document this story through film. Enter Red Productions…

Red Sanders was in attendance at the Dallas Falling Whistles benefit and began talking with an old friend who coincidentally was working with Sean. This story is too important not to be told and Sanders quickly agreed to join them on the next trip. They will spend two weeks in the Congolese jungle attempting to rescue soldiers and figure out a way to keep them safe more permanently. One of the main goals of this trip is to figure out how to use the money raised to create a safe haven for the child soldiers that have been rescued. “They need a place that they can be rehabilitated and work through the horrible acts they have been forced to commit. Things that for us, are almost impossible even to fathom,” says Sanders.

Red will be capturing as much of this trip as possible in hopes of being able to show people first hand the atrocities that are taking place. He added, “this situation has already gone on far too long and something has to be done.” To read the rest of Sean’s story follow this link.
