Red Sanders is nominated for a Lone Star Emmy award for his role as Co-Producer and Director of “Regeneration”. “Regeneration” is a documentary about Angie, a young woman who was diagnosed with macular degeneration at the age of seventeen. Macular degeneration specifically affects an individual’s capability for acute and detailed vision, such as reading, driving, recognizing faces, and watching television. The disease typically affects the elderly, but in extremely rare cases such as Angie’s, young people are diagnosed.

As a senior in high school looking forward to college, Angie unexpectedly had to reevaluate her entire life. With no known cure available, Angie was told she would be legally blind in one year. With the support of friends and family, Angie decided to put her education on hold and see as much as possible before loosing her vision.

At that point, Co-Producers Red Sanders and Chris Greer teamed up to turn their focus on Angie’s story as she traveled to New York City to take what could be her last look at the Big Apple. Chris Greer stated, “Red and I were always on the same page while producing ‘Regeneration’. We knew that documenting Angie’s story was important, and it was a project that we both believed in.” Angie’s story was a way to inform audiences of a disease while providing a look into the human emotion. “Angie serves as a poignant reminder to keep a positive outlook on life and to not let any obstacle stand in the way of achieving your goals,” said Red Sanders about what he took away from the experience.

Angie is now finishing up her last three classes at the University of North Texas and getting married in January. Congratulations Angie!
